Nature's Wonders
December 19th, 2001
The original inhabitants of the island now known as Jamaica were the Taino Indians. Although the Taino did not survive the European advance, many of their words have like tobacco, hammock and their name for the island, Xaymaca. Xaymaca means the "land of wood and water", which is a perfect description for Jamaica as this picture taken on the Black River shows! We want to thank Renee for today's picture, she has sent us some great photographs and we hope she has more photos to share with our Negril online community! If you have any photos you would like to see featured on the Negril Today page, please feel free to email them to us at realnegril@yahoo.com in a JPG file format. Also include a little background information about the picture(s) you would like others to enjoy! Thanks again Renee!
