Jamaican Hibiscus

March 19th, 2002

For the nature photographer, Jamaica and Negril offer up species of stunning variety to keep your shutter snapping picture after picture! One of our Boardies (the nickname for members of our Negril online community), Irielita emailed us this JPG photo of the Jamaican Hibiscus that she took on the grounds of The Yellowbird. The Hibiscus is a tropical plant, named from the Greek word "hibiskos", can be identified by their five distinct petals with their staminal tube protruding from the center holding around 60 or so stamens. The shrubs are generally 4 to 5 foot in size and bear many beautiful blossoms. For the nature lover, Negril is paradise!
