Although known as great place to have a fun, relaxing time, Negril has a rich history. Pirates were regulars here long before you or I. Calico Jack spent a bit more time here than he should have! One of the most noteworthy spots in Negril is the Lighthouse located on the West End, just past Rick's Cafe. The 100 foot tall structure has guided ships safely around Jamaica's western edge since 1895. A decade before it's 100th anniversary, in 1985, the lighthouse became solar powered. Which, in a country with bright sun virtually everyday, makes a whole lot of sense. For past stories, click.
